PostSubject: JKS Quicker Discos - the easy way.   Sun 17 May 2009, 9:56 pm

I have been wanting the quicker discos for a while but really didn't want to buy them because there was so much more on the list to do and crawling under the Jeep with a wrench and socket isn't that big of a pain in the azz anyway right... well in the driveway it isnt so bad, Gilmer wasn't so bad either but Trees had a crapload of cacaburrs (sp?) I had a hard time finding somewhere level at Hidden Falls etc.... I started to look for a set.

First - stay close to Terrahawk cause if he has something he will probly upgrade soon. I lucked out with a nice set of gently used JKS Quicker Disconnects for a smokin' price.

T-Hawk went to the Currie Anti-rocks... and instead of removing the bolts from the discos he just removed the four bolts that were holding the sway bar on because he had to remove it anyway to install the Curries. Those bolts are easy to get to and I figured they could use some thread locker anyway.

First - remove the swaybar links from both sides.

Then I dropped the sway bar by removing the four bolts from the sway bar mount.

That allowed me to remove the sway bar.

Put some thread locker on the sway bar mount bolts and bolted it back up.

One PITA about the quicker discos is that it is tough to hold the mounting posts while you tighten the bolts on the back side (also put some threadlocker on them). I found that if you drop in a properly sized allen/hex key you can slide a nut driver on it making a nice back-up.

Then simply stick the new JKS sway lings on the mounting posts and insert the pin.

If you have not seen how easy the the quicker disconnects are I made a quick video of how easy it is. This is placing them back on, taking them off is even quicker. No doubt the garage is a perfect setting so it may be a little tougher while on the trail - either way it is easier than removing the stock bolts.

There are multiple makers of quick disconnects and I am sure that they are as easy as these. Some have a spot to stow the sway bar when disconnected which is nice. I will be using a bungee cord.

To be honest, I haven't bought a replacement yet....lol... I have been driving it like that for about 2 months now, and I dont really mind. I will fix it before december(going to gatlinburg, tn). Till then, I will probably be driving with no sway bar.......
