Subject: 98 tj 4.0 manual u joint? Sun 17 Jan 2010, 1:09 am
Does anyone know if the front axle is splinned into the transfer case so I can pull it out to change the u joint or do I have to drop the skid pan to get to the bolts?

Answer to my own question. The front axle is not splined into the transfer case as the rear is but you dont have to drop the skid plate while blocking up the tc. You can disconnect the front u joint near the front axle. Put the 8mm wrench on the bolt on the u joint coming out of the tc and twist the drive shaft until the wrench bottoms out against the tc and break the bolts free. Then rotate to the next bolt. Just fyi.

just an FYI you may want to go introduce yourself in the intro section, these guys tend to haze people who come one here and ask questions, try to sell stuff, etc... with out saying hi first.
Guess it's kinda like walking into someones (someone you don't know) house and helping yourself to their fridge with out knocking or saying hi
