Budget Boost? Empty
PostSubject: Budget Boost?   Budget Boost? Icon_minitimeTue 08 Sep 2009, 1:09 am

Would a budget boost be a good solution for a 2 1/2" lift or would it be better to get the Rough Country 2 1/2" progressive kit? I know what N2Rock is gonna say already, lol. (trying to be cheap, as I'm still in college, lol) Also, would the articulation be comparible between the two?

And would the JKS Quick Disconnects work on a budget boost also?

Any help and knowledge of this would be great!

I'd say go with the rough country and just make some disconects. The JKS ones are great and worth it but I personaly would spend the money on the lift first

I actually started with a BB, and later switched to the RC lift. The RC gives better articulation. But there certainly isn't anything wrong with going with a BB if that is what the budget can handle. Better to have some lift then none at all. My wife's rig has a BB on it now.

And yes the disco's would work with a BB too.

Whatever you do, don't spend a lot of money on the BB because I guarantee you'll be upgrading that suspension shortly down the road. I have the RC 4" lift with replacement arms. It was very affordable.

If I do go with the BB, any recommendations on which one?

There are various types of BB's out there. Some come with replacement shocks, some don't. If you just want some height and use the stock shocks, you can get any brand. They're all about the same.

If I were you, I'd buy a used one if all you need are the pucks. You can get those pretty cheap. Check around and put a post on JKowners.com if no one on here can come through.

If you're buying the pucks with the shocks (and possibly disconnects), I'm not of much help with those since I haven't owned any.

Hey man it has been a year and a half since I looked at lift prices but I think you will be much happier with the RC 2.5 lift. I know when I was looking at the lift it wasn't that much more expensive than the bb's, and more complete. My .02, don't buy quick discos. If you had extra $$ I guess they are ok, but I think it is just as easy to use ratchet and wrench as they quick disco's never line up right. Look real hard at that RC spring lift.... you could get it with shock adaptors now and get longer shocks later on down the road to save some $$$ The budget boost won't be able to be salvaged down the road.

if you stay with a BB i would go with Tera flex. They sell pretty big on the other forums and you can pick a used one pretty cheap. I would not pay full price for one, for whatever you buy. too many slightly used BB out there to do that. my 2 cents

First, what are your ultimate plans? Always think ahead...sometimes it is better to save and wait and do things once rather than repeat later at greater expense. I am the king of learning this the hard way, ask all those guys that have bought my old parts hahahaha.

The first time I ever wheeled with Geo- back when his jeep was new and still had the swaybars LOL... When we finished wheeling, and he had mentioned to me what a waste of money disco's are... Well, I was finished connecting and standing there smoking a cigarette while he was laying on the ground still hooking up the first link. You know I just had to stand there and give him shit. He looks up sees me smoking and talking shit, and couldn't believe I was finished re-connecting already LOL

I'll tell you what sold me on them. A very muddy day out at Spring Creek. And after wheeling, there I was laying in the mud re-connecting. That was the day I decided to get quick disco's. And I have never regretted that decision.

And as far as not lining up. If the quick disco won't line up, neither would a stock link- they don't line up if the wheels are not on level ground. And in that situation it doesn't matter if they are stock or aftermarket.

BTW- didn't you have the RC disconnects? I've heard nothing but complaints about those, and seem to recall that is what you had.

N2, that is what I have, (the RC discos,) and yes they are not good! Too small, I had to drill out the holes just to fit the pins through that came with them, those pins broke, they are adjustable but can't seem to adjust to the height you need.

Also, I doubt your story cuz we all know that N2 never plays in the mud! Although there is this one picture on an adult web site where your license plate is cut in half by mud. Must be photoshopped!

And this might make me a horrible person but when the links don't line up, I get the top started then send that bolt through the bottom and keep wrenching on the nut while maverick bounces up and down on my bumper, and the nut pulls the bolt and link back into place. I might like discos better if I had gotten a better pair.

Thanks for all the help everyone. I think I will just wait until I have some more money and go with the RC lift (Probably in December when I commission in the military). Any recommendations on 33" tires? Budget Boost? Icon_biggrin lol, hope I'm not annoying anyone with all the questions...

KM2's rock. Good for mud or rocks, not too loud on the pavement. An all around good tire.

Yeah, I was looking at the KM2's. I was also considering the pro comp X-terrains. Probably go with the KM2's though. Anyone know of any good wheels that aren't too expensive? I was considering running the stock wheels...
