Help please!

Ok, my scan tool only goes to OBD II and can read the CAN network on the new jeep. I just installed a 3.5" lift on the jeep but now the ESP/BAS light is on. My front brakes are closed on the rotors all the time. Naturally I can't drive it like this. Has anyone had this problem?
How do I fix this?

I noticed that the brake lines are tight (as in no slack in the line) I am thinking that due to the tight line the hose is being stretched, increasing brake fluid pressure. Do I need to get a longer break lines to correct this? I'm lost here, any would be great.

Your kit should have came with relocation brackets. You can order them. That shouldn't affect the brakes, just your flex.

1st off.. Just unbolt your brake line from your frame.. That will give it slack.. I did mine like that when I lifted my TJ and it's been that way for 4 years now.. Unless u just wanna spend the extra money for longer lines..

2nd what is the "can" network? And the ESP/BAS light?

Simply lifting your jeep shouldn't cause any issues that require a code reader to diagnose .. Most common issues are tight brake lines (which we covered) and steering ...

OK.... The steel lines need to be anchored to the frame. If not they will flex over time and the tubing will crack. Relocate the anchors so you have some travel and you should be fine. This should release the pressure locking the brakes. I believe this is half of the problem.... The other half is the steering is probably not centered after the lift. To adjust loosen the clamps and adjust the tie rod attached to the pittman arm. This will turn the ESP light on. Any of you JK guys can chime in at any time.....and give the proper procedure.....

Yup! Park your jeep with tires straight and pending your steering wheel is turned. You need to adjust the coupler that is next to the pitman arm on the drag link. Just turn it a quarter turn at a time and drive it until you get your steering wheel straight while driveing straight.

What is happening is the computer is monitoring the wheel speed sensors and the steering position sensor and thinks you are in a skid... Wheels are all spinning the same speed but the steering wheel is turned=skid

Your esp/bas lights are probably on because of an alignment problem.

Your brakes are locked because you have pissed of the CANBUS gods and now you will SUFFER!!!!

No, seriously, I dont know why your brakes are locked up, but I'm betting that if those lines are tight, that's probably the issue. Go ahead and unbolt them from the anchoring points for the time being, but get the brackets on asap.

I'd be willing to be a bucket of chicken wings that when your front wheels are straight ahead, your steering wheel is off to either the right or to the left. As Lonestar rubi said, the Jeep's ESP interprets this as a skid condition. It then compensates by applying the rear brakes (That's the BAS part of the display. It stands for Brake Assisted Steering). If the ESP thinks you are skidding, it applies rear brakes to counter the skid. I suppose it's possible that the brakes are locked due to the skid sensor, but it might be a combination of brake lines that are too tight and the ESP.

Get yourself some brake line drop brackets. Some should have come with your kit. Re-center your steering wheel. Your brakes should release. The ESP/BAS display will go away after driving the vehicle for a few minutes. I think it's 5 minutes, but it might be more.

Thanks for the feedback. The wheel is turned right 90 degrees so that makes sense about the skid part. I checked the kit, either I threw them out on accident or I didn't get any. I will order some ASAP and correct the alignment issue. I'll keep y'all posted.

If you can spend the coin, I'd go with longer braided stainless steel brakelines. Try Marcus at River City Offroad or TrailDuty.com. Both are good vendors with good pricing.

Thanks for all the input. I did the o'l eye ball alignment for now. I actually got it pretty darn close to straight too. Anyways, I didn't make it down the street before the light came off!! The input helped me a lot!
Also, Talk about the best, I called SKYJACKER to ask about the drop brackets, and my kit did not come with them. After talking with them about the problem, they said as a thanks for being a customer, they are sending me a FREE set of SKYJACKER brake line extensions! Talk about customer service. Maybe at the next Meet and Greet I can finally meet some of y'all and thank you again in person.

Wow! Jk's have a sensor like that on the steering? Lol ...hell my TJ don't even tell me to put my seatbelt on any more..

JKs have sensors for EVERYTHING !! Kinda what makes them a pain in the arse.

batjeep, glad you got it worked out. Try an AEV procal. it has a mode on it which lets you plug it into the OBD port and will let you know when the wheel is exactly center. The procal also lets you program for larger tires and gearing.

Just to thoroughly muck up everything, you can also buy the Aeroforce Interceptor gauge. It can tell you everything that comes off of the OBDII port and do everything the AEV procal does (and more).

I have the Procal and the dual aeroforce gauges. The procal is cheaper but if you need/want gauges, it makes sense to buy the aeroforce. A nice touch on the Interceptor is that you can view the "steering angle" so you'll know right away how to adjust the drag link to get things zeroed out with the computer. The procal does this by using the lights on the front of the jeep. When you have it centered, I think the headlights or parking lights both come on.
