It depends on many factors. Other than the old-school 350 (eliminate all computers) a lot of people are looking at the Vortec 5300 out of Tahoes and other such GM vehicles. That's probably where I'll end up going one of these years...

If you want to keep it Jeep.... 304, 360, 401.

The GM 5.3 is popular and painless wiring offers stand alone harnesses (sp?) to simplify the instalation. GM uses common bell housings which opens up all kinds of options

I don't like Fords so .....

I have seen a TJ with a dodge 360 (different from the AMC). You could go with a 318 also.... all good engines and readily available.

where do you live? some places require your swapped engine to be the same year or newer then your vehicle.

i have a 302/c6/208 that i am putting in mine sometime this summer (i hope) sitting in the garage
