| Need advice. I am planning on going to the Boulder Creek trip on May 24th with some of you guy's. I don't have rocker guards yet, and my Sahara steps will crack at the first rock it looks at. Should I be overly concerned of running the JK to Boulder Creek without sliders/ or rock guards? Will the frame suffice enough protection for the day. I will probably not wheel it too hard, as it is my first time off road. Set my mind at ease. I have been trying to pick up a set of rubi rock rails, but have not found any in my price range. It would not be a long term solution as I need one that would have to be a step as well. I am eyeing the Rock Hard sliders/steps, but they are $799. Currently I am $794 short of being able to pay for those, need to do a little saving I guess Please advise. | |

Yeah, but I was also smart enough to remove them for the Longs trip. As Redneck said, they will hurt the body if you get up against anything. I run my sidesteps at Spring Creek because it is mostly dirt. Rocks (like at Longs) are a lot less forgiving

| Thanks for the feedback. Now is Boulder Creek, and forgive me I sound ignorant, as the name already mentions "boulder", mostly trails or is it a rock crawling place. also, what does our group typically run? Trails or rocks? | |

| If you've never really wheeled I doubt you would feel comfortable in any situation that could damage yours rockers. That having been said I would remove your steps as you said. When you do buy rails I would recommend the Poly Performance high clearance rocker guards. For a 4dr they cost $675. They offer 3 to 4" more clearance than anything else out there (except TeraFlex that shares design) and are very well intergrated in the JK's overall design. If I didn't trade for my Shrockworks rails (read free to me) I would have the Poly Performance rails without a second thought. | |

It will make it easier for my wife & Kids to get into the JK. That is why I was looking into the rock hard ones. I like the fact that they kind of protect all the way down to the frame, and looks like sliding off obstacles will be easier.

Most real off-the-shelf rock rails that tuck tight against the body will be too high to effectively use as an everyday step. My kids use my Shrockworks rails to climb in on, but to most adults they are a hindrance to step over.

We just installed these on a Jeep right before Moab. The Rock Hard ones that I have do have a step but it is a little high to be useful. See picture: They can sure take a beating though. I like how they are higher though for use on the rocks. My GF doesn't think they are too high though which is good I guess.

I wish we sold their stuff. I have been to their shop in Minden Nebraska a few times. Lewis is the owner (Louie) and he is a great guy. His stuff is basic but pretty dang hardcore to be honest. He has done a great job cutting down costs by using the same parts from a TJ to an XJ to a JK (i.e. the tire carrier for all are about the same). This helps reduce the cost big time for us. If you buy the two door rocker guards you are getting something that my Jeep helped make! He took my JK for a couple of weeks and fit the 2dr gas tank skid and sliders using my JK. One of the perks I guess!

One of the perks I guess! I have also been looking into there skid plates. But I haven't picked the manufacturer I am going with just yet. I might just buy skids that are not powdercoated and just line X them. No need for them to look pretty, if I am just gonna bang'em up :reflection:
