Finding an AR platform is the easy part.

The HARD part is finding .223 or .308 ammo. It has gotten like trying to find hens teeth.

Try this site...I have ordered from them in the past...

The only "true" AR 15 is the Colt. They designed it and have the patent. There are many manufacturers out there making them. I say you get what you pay for. Go with a quality manufacturer and don't shop for price.

I think they are a PITA. I used them for 20 years in the military. M16A1, A2 and M4 (shorter with collapsible stock). They are a pain to clean and clog up if you shoot a lot(probably shoot more in military than average). They are very accurate however and you can be pretty accurate up to 300-400 yards without a scope.

I got the DPMS .308, but you can try these three sites.

If I was gonna get a .223, I would purchase from one of these three:

then you know that's really the only difference between the two. parts are pretty much interchangable. But not the trigger groups (not legally). i think most m16s come with 18" barrels and gas blocks are located farther forward but you can get an m16 set up exactly the same. most ARs are now A3 or A4 uppers (flat railed top) where as most older m16s have the carry handles. but everything is changing.
Don't forget the buffer tube/stock.

The AR-15 is a semi-auto version of the full-auto capable military M16.

Check this forum's equipment & exchange section. Some good deals, some not. Cheaper if you build one.

How much do you wanna spend, and do you have an FFL lined up?
