Anybody besides me carry a survival kit? I carry a basic kit at all times, and a more comprehensive one on long trips. The small kit contains:

Small MOLLE waistpack/lumbar hydration pack attached to a last resort rappeling belt.
poncho
space blanket
lensatic compass
magnesium fire starter
fire striker
signal mirror/signal orange flag
small fishing kit
small first aid kit
matches
small sewing kit
various lengths of small diameter ropes/550 cord
knot tying cards
safety pins
hand chain saw
titanium spork
MSR pocket rocket stove/fuel
water purification tablets/straw
carabiners
static rope
leatherman
small knife
small signal flares
hand towel
kleenex
small flashlight
cyalume sticks
figure 8 decender
small Petzl ascender
water/MRE/protein bars
small titanium cooking kettle
several dollars
chewing gum-sugared

All this believe it or not fits in a medium size waistpack or small rucksack

A good quality small socket set.
Torx set
small hammer
open end wrench set
electrical tape
fuses
electrical connectors
extra spark plugs
gasket in a tube
2 part epoxy putty
sheet of sand paper
electrical wire
bailing wire
zip ties
gloves
screwdriver set
allen wrench set
spark plug gap tool
small metal file
vise-grips

I carry all this and a few other things I can`t remember. This all fits in a .50 cal ammo can. My wife has a similar kit in a canvas bag.

That sounds great man. It seems like you may be the Last Boy Scout. lol nothing wrong with being prepared man. Thats my motto, I highly agree Crux. These items can be the difference in a pinch for sure. Hopefully you never need this stuff but they can really come in handy in everyday life also.


P.S. Thats coming from a real Eagle Scout

you forgot small plastic bags (ziplocks) and toilet paper. can't forget the TP.

biggest thing.... c'mon... fine, first aid kit!!!! bandages, gauze, and compression wrap with neosporene (sp?) or spary antiseptic.

Yeah, I forgot to list that. I got some compact toilet rolls for camping that are in the kit as well. The first aid kit is constantly being replenished with neosporin,band aids and gauze, cuz I can`t stop cutiing myself!

One other thing I forgot in the tool box that I used to carry in my TJ was a universal joint. You never know when one of those will go.
