PostSubject: Gas can????   Gas can???? Icon_minitimeSun 22 Mar 2009, 1:26 am

I am currently getting wifeys jeep ready for next week. I wont be getting the metal Jerry can as many of you run on your rigs. Would it be wise to have at least a cheap plastic 5 gallon gas can to use? Both me and my son will be using the little travel storage thingy attached to bumper hitch. Is it wise to haul a gas can on this??? input would be appreciated as we are newbies to the travel thingy. scratch

well...I'll be doing the same thing with at least 4 of em. I just got one of those receiver tray things too - so I could bring gas along. Just gonna make sure they're strap tied down real well!

Just strap 'em down real good and you won't have any problems. I have a hitch haul, and drove from Crosby to Durango and Pagosa Springs and back with 2 diesel cans strapped on either side of our huge Igloo on the back of my Dodge Ram.

Granted, they were diesel, and we would not have gone up in a blaze of glory from being rear ended (no Boy George jokes), but they were DOT double wall cans, so I didnt worry to much.

Yea, I did the same thing going down the PINs. I used rachette straps, and had gas on one side and water on the other. I also had the large cooler in the middle full of drinks and Ice. It held up pretty good going down the beach also. I wouldn't go with much more than the 5 gallon plastic can.

I will be camping at Trees Ranch... Do i NEED to bring extra gas for sure? If so, can anybody carry my gas cans on their hitch carrier or have a hitch carrier I can use? I'll carry the rest of your gear from Houston... Im a bit strapped for buying a hitch carrier right now.

Cedric - I should have you covered...I'm bringing 10 gallons of fuel with me on my carrier.
