| for any of you that have known me for awhile, i finally fixed this popping noise that has been with me for about a year and a half. so here is how it went down: Johnny JK and I were installing a stock drive shaft (redneck houston was supposed to send, but didn't pan out) that i bought from a guy in Ohio. we start using a torque multiplier on the pinion nut on the rear diff and we were able to duplicate the noise. We were both like Aha!! :teacher: So i then go about getting together spare parts starting with stock ring and pinion gears. Thanks to Body guy (you rock) and I got a slightly used carrier from a chap in canada. Wasn't sure what i would find when i cracked the case so i went to Doug's. He is very good with gears. We opened it an no damage! Pulled the axle shafts and come to find out the carrier was in the there very loose. Also, the spider gears were kinda loose in the carrier. Apparently, the limited slip has friction pads in the carrier that wear out and it was causing the pop. Running the big tires and getting all the tire spin over the last two years was more than it could handle. Poor guys at Rockkrawler were pulling there hair out cause i was convinced it was my lift. Johnny and Jeff and I must of pulled out that lift 3-4times trying to fix the damm thing. Well, we put the "new" carrier in added an extra shim and no more pop. Take away: Don't give up and you will find it....eventually | |
