| The unit outside is freezing up. I changed the filters (they were very dirty). There are no airflow restrictions.
The unit outside runs so I went to the attic. The blower for the downstairs unit does not turn on.
The system is less than 2 years old so I am assuming there is no leak. Worked fine until a few days ago.
Anyone out there know anything about these units? Or someone trustworthy who does.
Luckily the upstairs unit works and cold air flows down or life would really suck

do you have a home warranty? if so call them out. if not, you can add it and file a claim.. i forgot the name. my manager at work got it and just had $3000 of ac work done for $100.
http://www.air-conditioning-and-refrigeration-guide.com/air-conditioning-freezing.html "total warranty Blower isn't frozen. I took off the cover and turned it. It is just not turning on. Have a 1 year "total" warranty. 2 year "delivery systems" whatever that is. The unit itself is covered for parts only by manufacturer for 5 years. Thanks for the link. Much more detailed than the ones I found. I had already done most of that stuff, check the fan, clean and check for obstructions. Everything seems OK except the fan doesn't run. Had a problem with the fan when I first moved in. It was running constantly because of a shorted switch. Makes me think I have another problem with the fan. How can I add a warranty now and claim something that is already broken? Sounds too good to be true. If you have any more info on that let me know.

| You live in the Newmark house in Bella Vista, correct? If so, I think Big Tex HVAC did the AC in that neighborhood. There direct number should be listed on the sticker beneath your sink. Depending on the install date EVERYTHING in their systems should be covered for a minimum of two years, while various items are covered longer. Call them direct. | |

| Also it is possible that the dirty filters simply caused the system to overload and freeze up. Turn the unit completely OFF and let it set over night and there is a chance it might work in the AM. | |

| Check the breaker too. SDometimes the breaker to the fan will trip. Especially when the warm season starts, and there's more of an overload. | |

| There's a switch in the outside unit that will sometimes stick on. Try taping it to release the contacts in it. If the outside unit runs while the inside is off then it will freeze up every time. Take the panel off the side of your unit and look for the switch that power wires go into and just take a screw driver and tap on it. If that doesn't work you have lost nothing. This has happened to mine a couple of times, I need to replace my switch some day.

| Thanks for all the input. I now have information overload :seestars:
I changed all the filters then left it off overnight. Was still freezing at the unit outside in the morning. Didn't take long to start freezing. I will look for the number for Big Tex HVAC. The unit outside runs, it is just the blower inside that doesn't run.
Will the switch on the outside unit have any effect on the inside unit?
Checked all the breakers and no issues there.

| My experience is that when you see ice on the outside unit (I assume that's what you met when you said it was froze up) is there is a leak. | |

Here's the deal. If the outside unit is running, then the compressor is running too. There fore when the inside unit doesn't blow air across the inside coils to keep air flow it causes over cooling on the coils which in tern causes ice up. Both units have to run to keep from ice up. If there is no freon there is no cooling. If it was out of freon then both units would run with no effect, just blowing hot air in the house.

| A leak could do it. eventually it will quit running because of low pressure.
The compressor continues to run and the blower fan doesn't. I am going with the fan or a switch/control for the fan.
Will attempt to get fixed under warranty next week. Hope they are better than the jeep dealers

Newmark went bankrupt so all home warranties are kaput. Will call Big Tex HVAC tomorrow. Hope their warranty isn't tied to the home warranty. Couldn't find a sticker under the sink. Got one from the internet. Do you have a better number?

Couldn't find a sticker under the sink. Got one from the internet. Do you have a better number? A builder is really only the general contractor. All warranties are technically product warranties and warrantied through the installer or the manufacturer. Normally the builder simply serves as a coordinator only, but do to our corporate status that is why I recommended calling Big Tex directly. There number is 647-3034. Just ask for AC service.

Finally called Big Tex. They did the install in April 07 so it is out of warranty. Since it is so close to the end of the warranty period they said they will cover it :elmodance2: Good to see some companies will do right by their customers Thanks for the info and number Duke :youtheman:

| The AC guy came today. Took him about 5 minutes to figure out the blower on the inside unit bad.
Should have one in in a few days.
They are going to cover it all under their warranty.
