| 8000lbs will do just fine. I think it needs to be a minimum of 1.5 times the weight of your vehicle. I have the Warn M8000, and it has not let me down. However, I haven't had to use it that often either. | |

| Sascha is right. The general rule is get a winch 1.5 times your vehicles weight. I personally believe you should buy the largest quality winch you can afford. I have been stuck in a built Samurai (2500 lbs) that three 8000 or bigger winches connected in unison could not move. You can never have too much winch. | |

| I would try to go with a 10,000 if u can afford it. After 10,000 the winches end up way to heavy for the front end of the jeep | |

That is not always true. Several brands 12k winch are the same winch as their 9k model only geared differently with a heavier cable. In many cases the only difference is the extra 5 or so pounds that the cable weighs. | |

| 8000 is enough. As already stated- if you can afford larger, go for it. But if 8k is all your budget allows, then it will be enough for most of your needs. My 8k winch has worked fine every time I've needed it. | |

| The reason I was asking was that there is a 8000lbs Mile Marker winch on SA Craig's List for $250. I can't spend the money right know, so if anybody else is looking for a winch. | |
