PostSubject: Another new guy from the SA area   Another new guy from the SA area Icon_minitimeFri 04 Sep 2009, 9:29 am

Hey everyone. I've been over to this site a few times but I finally decided to stop lurking and register today. Seeing Mr. Ron Gilbert's link to this forum on his JKowners sig finally changed my mind! I'm a regular over at JKOwners and I see some of the same familiar faces here too.

My rig is an 08 Rubi Unlimited. I'm getting ready to do a hemi mod to my rig. We just had another baby so my wheeling time has been EXTREMELY limited lately. Crying or Very sad I'm hoping that will change very soon though.

Anyway, I look forward to meeting some of you new Jeepers and meeting up with some of the familiar old faces at JKowners and Pirate.

Here's a few pics. Sorry for the poser shots, it's all I have handy right now.

Welcome to the forum, looking forward to seeing a Hemified JK in San Antonio.
Are you doing the build yourself, or having it done?

I'm planning to do it myself. I've got a good line on a 6.1 and a few 5.7's. Not sure which one yet. The adult in me says go with the 5.7. Maybe I won't break so much stuff with it.

Based on what I have heard the 5.7 is a more reliable engine, so it would be the wiser choice, but I can imagine it is tough to walk away from a 6.1 Hemi.

Either way, I think you would be happier than the minivan engine we all have right now.

I totally agree with you Dutch.

When I look at the work laid out ahead of me, I sometimes think that maybe I should take this money and just buy a tow rig instead!!!! If I break it, it goes onto the trailer.

I do a lot of driving to CO and NM so the 5.7 would give me an edge on the fuel prices too. With the 5.7, I probably wouldn't need to go to a D60 right away. From what I've heard, if you can wheel it with some restraint, the D44's will hold up reasonably well.

My wife must think I'm totally insane. 14K miles on the Jeep and you're going to replace the engine??!!

Thanks for the warm welcome.

It's good to see some of you guys around here from JKO. Hopefully I can make one of the upcoming events so I can put some Jeeps with faces and meet some of the other Jeepers.

Mudhound - it's possible that we've run into each other. I saw a TJ at Kittyhawk HEB a few weeks back with a Jeep Nation sticker. Was that you? I parked right across from the Jeep.

I live out in La Vernia so I come into town about once or twice a week. I see lots of Jeeps but most of them are oblivious drivers who don't wave.

Welcome!!! Good to have you over here.

Great lookin' rig! Get some good pics of the Hemi swap and do a write up.... that would be very cool to follow!

The Houston bunch had an edge over the SA bunch for a while but WE are getting our butts kicked on getting new recruits!! We better step it up.

RG - I will certainly take pics and some video along the way. I've followed the very few hemi swap threads religiously and they've helped me tremendously. Hoepfully, I can pass along my knowledge to the other guys getting ready to do the swap down the road.

As of today, I'm fairly settled on the 5.7 instead of the 6.1. I called to order the engine I was following and the MF'ers sold it to a Jeep dealer yesterday. Oh well. The search continues.

Lastly, I appreciate the offer to help with the swap. I'll start another thread when I get started and I certainly won't mind an extra hand.

Thanks. I have looked at those threads and I've even spoken with Ben. He's a nice guy. I've called Dan (the owner of Burnsville Off Road) and spoken with AEV several times too.

I've learned a helluva lot in the last month. I thought I had it all nailed down and then started talking with some of those guys. I'll try to consolidate a lot of what I learned when I start my thread.
