PostSubject: Going under the knife. Should I be scared?   Going under the knife. Should I be scared? Icon_minitimeTue 29 Sep 2009, 2:18 pm

I'm not going under the knife, my JK is!!

After months of searching and deliberating, I pulled the trigger on a very low mile 5.7L engine/trans out of a Commander. I decided on the 5.7 for a bunch of reasons. The price difference was substantial but it was mainly other factors. I travel out West frequently pulling a trailer so this will see a lot of miles in the Rockies on and off road. Good gas is not always easy to find and I think the 6.1 is more finicky with its requirement for premium. The price difference also leaves me with room for more mods. I also felt that if I'm not happy with the 5.7, I can always upgrade some more or even build another jeep from the ground up. Also, going with the 6.1 would necessitate the use of Burnsville's kit, which requires more fab work. This wasn't a big deal to me but I would have been fabbing up an exhaust in my shop since I can't get a bolt on exhaust like what comes in the AEV kit. That's a condensed version but you get the idea.

I know a few of you guys offered to help. You guys are always welcome to come by and help or just shoot the breeze. Honestly, I don't think the swap will be that hard. I plan to start when I come back from Vegas (around the 13th is my estimated start date). I will do a full write up with video and pics.

Oh hey...were you part of the Hammerfest ride the La Vernia Historical Society put on that we sponsored a rest stop at, a couple weeks ago? It was actually in New Berlin, but still. I drive through La Vernia every time I head to or from the lease. Gotta tend to the feeders, you know.

But yeah, I'm out near 1604/Bandera, but I'm sure I could make it out some time to help, or at least ogle the engine Smile

No I wasn't there. We had my son's 2yr b-day party that day so I couldn't make it. Anytime you want to drop by Deacon, just let me know. Most of my work will be done in the evenings and weekends.

Anytime Fred! I hope the sale of the SRT4 went well. Does this mean that you have the money to do your swap now?
