| I recast my vote. Of the locations listed, Gilmer and Hidden Falls are best suited for an event of this type. -Both can accomodate very large groups without any real traffic issues. -Both can accomodate a wide range of wheelers types, from the newbie to the hardcore. -Both have reasonably decent facilities. As the voting indicates its really a two horse race. Since Hidden Falls could be an easy day trip for everyone except the Houston group, it seems to me it makes the most sense to jump into the Gilmer group. The 7 plus hour drive dragging the Jeep will SUCK, but it definitely seems to make the most sense. | |

| Man I thought HF was ok but there are only two guys in my chapter that have real rock crawling jeeps. Most of the time on the trip to HF for the 4th of July myself and most of my guys were just sitting around waiting for everyone else to get done with the trails.
Most of us are into trails, hill climbs, and mud. As far as rock crawling the only thing we ever hit is a creek or two (as long as we haven’t been banned from them yet)

Any for the cleaning of mud yeah that maybe true but for those that have 5000 or more grand in axles with low gears for crawling well mud is just a no no. I live 1.5 hrs from hidden falls and BVORR and I would still rather travel he extra to gilmer or OK or AR even NM Or UT for that matter.

Most of us are into trails, hill climbs, and mud. As far as rock crawling the only thing we ever hit is a creek or two (as long as we haven’t been banned from them yet) ??? Polly did great at longs. also, many trails can be run on stock or minimal mods at HF. unless going on level 4 & 5 trails. I know, it's the fear of that first scratch or ding in the skid plates. Trust me, i was there too. But really, you'd be suprised at what a stock jeep can do. those bangs & scraps sound way worse than they really are (most of the time ). The first trip i kept getting out and checking the undercarriage after just about every obstacle.i did pretty good with a 2.5" BB and 33s for a good while before upgrading my suspension & tires. .

| But see yall are not getting the full picture, polly owns a rubi that's a big diffrence than a stock TJ X. If I and everyone else in the chapter owned a rubi I'm sure know one would have any problems going over rocks and stuff. But we don't. 90% of the people that turn in there applications into me for the chapter prefer trails and mud. There is only 2 or 3 that's like rock crawling.
That's one of the reason we prefer to goto barnwell because its not just a rock crawling park like hidden falls is. Barnwell has other trails that just the rockcrawling ones.
And the thing is if my whole chapter goes I don't want them to be bored because there a trails they can't go on or do not want to go on because there not into rock crawling. Instead they will just be sitting around and waiting for everyone else to get done.
That's why we put barnwell, brazos valley, rockcreek and alto on the list cause they have other things to do than just rock crawling, like hill climbs, sand, mud and tons of trails.

| I have a great idea! We can do our New Years run some place like Hidden Falls for all the Hard Core Rock wheelers. and Do TSJM at a place like Barnwell or shiloh.
This way TSJM can grow, this way everyone will have a good time and get to do the level of wheelin they are comfortable with.
Remember what TSJM stands for TEXAS SIZE Jeep Meet....which would mean we are shooting for a larger group!
Anyhow that said Barnwell has taken the lead.

Anyhow that said Barnwell has taken the lead. Sounds like a plan. There is no way I can go to Gilmer on New Years, too much to do that weekend. However, Hidden Falls is an option and will probably be able to go. I am sure more San Antonians would be up for that too. Can someone, (Renee) make a decision and finalize where we will be holding TSJM!!!

| regarding NYE... The thing is, I'm planning on 2 possibly 3 days of wheeling. Barnwell can definitely give us 3 full days of wheeling, possibly even without ever hitting the same trail twice. Can the same be said for Hidden Falls? I've never been there so I don't know. But it seems to me that it is still young and probably doesn't have the quantity of trails that Barnwell has.
And I have no problems with wheeling Barnwell twice (NYE and TSJM). That place is fun enough to wheel a couple times per year.

Like Jennie said, we are looking at places that cater to a wide range of jeeps. I think hidden falls has plenty for stock TJs. but, since you prolly hung with the SA group, we tend to do alot of rocks. So i can see where you got bored. They have plenty of hill climbs. Didn't see very much mud tho. TheBigOnion here (mike with a stock tj on 31s), he kept up with the SA group VERY well at Longs. We hit as many rocks as we could. I was impressed when he made it thru the rocky creekbed. Looks like barnwell is the place, so no worries either way
