| Hi all, So I've been looking to buy some new black rims, but being a poor person, I decided to paint mine. My son did most of the work. (90%) We did two at a time as that's all the jacks I had. After the wheels were off, the first step was to go over them with a 3" wire brush. Followed by a once over with some 320 grit sand paper to get any rough parts off. Then we cleaned them off with some paint thinner and a rag. Now that they are ready, we tapped off the tire with some newspaper. No photo, but after the tapping off, we cleaned the rims once more with tack paper. Ok, now we are ready for some paint. We used "self-etching" primer first, let it dry for 30 mins then used filler primer. Once the primer had dried for 30 mins, we put a light coat of the black on. (Dupli-color high heat with ceramic) Again, after 30 more mins we put the thick coat of black on. This time we let it dry for more than an hour. We did not tighten the nuts until the next morning. (This one.) I cannot take 100% credit for this work as I followed some instructions off youtube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q5eK5OnHfqAHe sales a kit for about $90, but I did my whole thing for about $30. | |

| Looks Professional to me! Good Job. I have used Duplicolor rattle can to paint the whole rear end of my jeep including tailgate and front fenders. Been a couple of years now...as long as you prep good and follow directions it should last quite a while. Decided to paint my bike with the same stuff after i saw how it turned out. Here are a couple of pics... About 2 years after paint About 1 year after paint Sorry for the hijack ! | |
