Damnit! I needed those! lol....

After a pep talk from Geo I got them broken down and sanded, used 600 grit to get the clear coat off, they should be good. Geo will approve in the morning, or I may need to touch up a few places. Fist time doing this and didn't want to sand too much. I will put together a write up once I get everything done - so far about 4 hours in tearing them down, sanding/cleaning and sanding some more. Made a few calls to Bodyguy and got some tips.

What I didn't understand was how much was enough and how much was too much. George finally put it into terms that I could understand. He said that they should look like a chalkboard, dull, matte like finish. That helped me a bunch. The original paint will be used as the base coat/primer so there was no need to go down to bare metal.

Slight delay on the paint, the paint shop was out of the base that is needed to match my junk..... try again on Friday.

Nice!!! But the color is DEEP WATER BLUE, and you can drop those by anytime........lol

There is another guy trying to trade halfs for fulls on a white jeep, but he is in CA and on the forum we don't speak of......

Finally got a day to get the paint done on my doors. Fortunately the weather cooperated although it was a bit humid. Started with some cleaner/de-greaser then wiped them down and used air to make sure everything was good and dry. Added two coats of black , wet sanded with 1500 then another coat of black. Then about four coats of clear. There are a few spots that need to be sanded down after a few days of hardening, they match perfectly and will look great after wet sanding/compounding/polishing. While we were waiting on the paint to dry I clay barred the whole damn heap, lots of crap on the paint. I have to go to New Orleans on Sunday and will put them back together when I get back on Thursday or Friday.

Hats off to George (RedneckHouston) he has a tremendous amount of knowledge and has never hesitated to lend a hand, he knew I wanted to get them painted but didn't have the cash right now to get them done at a shop. He took good care of me, as usual. Thanks to Timmy for some help getting them back on the Jeep for the ride back home.

and..... I don't think I will be getting a Christmas card from Geo's neighbor any time soon although I might send him one....or a catalog.....

wow, the doors are looking good. Yeah, that neighbor gets angry if you're going any faster than idle crawling.

Lets just say that I might have fractured his private road 5mph speed limit "law" a little bit.... and he was relatively unhappy about that fact. We are good friends now.

The yard stays mowed and the half doors just need to harden then they will be compounded/buffed and polished.... might polish the yard too.....

honestly i am not a huge fan of half doors, but damn that looks real good in black!! with the fenders, bumper and doors it looks like a completly new jeep.

Thanks a ton for the help Geo, they turned out real nice. I have a whole new appreciation to what it takes to paint... real paint and not the rattle can specials that I am used to
