| Hi all, I am thinking of putting 33's on my TJ (right now it has 31's) and someone told me that I would have to put in new gears. Is that true? What new gears do I need and how much do they run? Can I put them in? or do I have to hire someone?
Thanks.
p.s. Anyone know if there is a better place to purchase my tires besides Discount?

| Depends on what your factory gears are. You got a 4.0L or the 2.5L? Auto or standard tranny? | |

No. You don't have to. It may be desirable, though, depending on what you're running now. Do you know what it is? See here if not: FAQ - How do I determine my gear ratio? Also, you didn't say whether it was a manual or automatic transmission.

| btw, I don't know what it's running. But right now I have 31's on there and when I'm in the hills, the Jeep has a hard time getting up to speed. | |

| Probably 3.07's. You have a D30 in front and a D35 in the back right? I have a full case LSD for the rear and an open front with 3.73's you can have if you want. You'll need to get someone to install them though. You may want to go deeper though. I think 4.56 would be the proper gearing for you with 33's. Talk about a night and day difference from your 3.07's... | |

| If your jeep came with the 30" package it probably came with the 3:73 and a rear Dana 44 if not it would have the 3:07 and probably a rear Dana 35. Either way you will be fine since you have the 6cyl. You can check what gears you have on a small plate bolted to the differential cover.
When I had my 2000 TJ 6cyl I ran 33" tires on my stock 3:73 gears and I really dint tell the difference. Now with me 98 4cyl I did had to regear and is still slow.
