It's not a stupid question GB, keeping the weight snug on the axle helps when the front end is elevated. Paul executed one of the coolest moves that I have seen in this vid at about 3:30. I have seen Geo use it to his advantage a number of times as well.
Look at about 2:20 and 4:15 you can see how he uses it.
