I've heard rumors of the 151 cid Iron Duke that was available from 80-83' reaching close to 30mpg in several other vehicles and MPG in the mid 20's in CJ7's.
A whopping 90-98 hp pushing you down the road at 55mph must have made for a nice ride......ugh......
On the other hand I've owned a '77 CJ5 that got about 8mpg with a hopped up 304 V8 backed by the 3speed and a '78 CJ7 w/ a 401 V8 with an auto that got 10-12 mpg.

I bought my first CJ in 1986 several months before I turned 16 and got my license. In the last 25 years I've learned a thing or two about Jeeps/wheelin.

what...nobody mentioned the best Jeep commercial - the one with the Marlboro Man looking dude riding a friggin buffalo then he grabs a chick and they're both ridin it! In the end the mans man singer growls..."THERE'S A FEELING YOU CAN GET...only in a JEEP!" (as they focus in on the chicks face! LOL...what feelin is that mr Jeep man?!)
