| Here is the deal. I have a 99 wrangler 4 inch suspen. lift 3 inch body lift with 35's. I am new to this sport and I have 2 boys 8 and 10 who would be attending any events with me. I am looking for something that is not going to kill the kids me or my new toy. Also due to my lack of off road experience I dont want to go somewhere that iam going to be holding up the whole trail or end up driving around everything. Can anyone help me out here? I am desperate to get this thing off road and see what it will do and there are no areas around me {New Braunfels} that i know of.....Thx for any info | |

| welcome!
The SA guys go up to Hidden Falls just north of Austin all the time, I think they do a run out there at least every couple months!
As for not wanting to kill your rig, well I guess you have to better define that LOL
Everyone here has suffered some sort of damage at some point or another! usually scratches small dings! But there are a few times where you get real carnage!
If you want my advice I think you should start with removing about 3 inches of lift maybe 4. Big lifts are bad news! Tall jeeps = roll overs!
LCG !!!!!!!!!!! (Low Center of Gravity)
What gears are you running? Wheeling with over sized tires and high gears can also limit you!
Hope we helped some! Feel free to ask any question!

| You'll probably find that your combination of lift is too much for your setup. LCG is good!
Are there any other upgrades to it? Beefier axles, body armor, etc?

| Yeah, we'd need to know a lot more about the details of your drivetrain to get an idea of your rig's capabilities. Also, yes, 3" of body lift is pretty extreme. If I were you and if I couldn't spend any money on it, I'd cut those pucks in half or down to 1" or 1.25" and be done with it (might have to buy new body bolts, though). As far as places to wheel, my first true wheeling adventure was had at Brazos Valley Off Road Ranch (BVORR) right outside College Station, and it was great. It's not all bunny slopes, but it has plenty of things that sure seem exciting anyway | |

| Whoever built that rig before you is a dumbass. I bet it even has a D35 in the rear to add insult to injury. No worries though, we can help you fix what the other guy screwed up. Think of us as the Jeep Dr. Drews. | |

| NWell Mr.adaben...I hope you didn't take offense to anyones comments about your rig, they are just trying to make a point that the lower you can keep it and still have suspension travel the better off you are. You can achieve that by going with a little less lift but maybe trim fender flares or add wheel spacers to avoid tire rub on fenders and/or the frame etc.... These guys are just breakin ya in right so don't be mad at 'em..Welcome to the forum!! | |

| Ok the details as best as i can tell. The front and rear are stock, stock drive shafts, skid plate under the transfer case i am guessing stock. The only mods that i know for sure that have been done are the lift and tires, Borla exhaust and header, rhino lined inside, 4 off road lights, some steps, and an after market radiator. I put on a new bumper/spare tire carrier and a new spare and rim. Hi lift jack is on its way. I apprecate all the welcomes and advise. I hate being the noob here but I would rather ask then be the moron on the trail that ruins everyones day. All advise and helpful info is welcome. The guy i bought the jeep from did 3 tours in Iraq so the thing sat for a while. Supposedly his wife would drive it couple times a week just to keep it running. I have had it checked out by a mechanic who said everything was in good order. It has 110,000 miles on it. I have changed the oil to a full synthetic, changed the plugs, flushed the radiator and changed out the radiator hoses. Thanks again for all info.. And no I don't offend easily and will give as good as i get when i know what the hell i am talking about | |

There's not really any such thing as "stock" as there were options for axles and gearing and transmissions and such, depending on the year. Check out this incredibly informative thread that will help you determine exactly what you have, which will be far more useful to yourself as much as for us: Stock TJ Specifications - JeepForum.comTry to figure out what axles and gearing you have. This is critical, by the way, not an afterthought. For transmissions it should be easy to tell, either standard or auto
