| Anyone have a 35" tire on the stock tire carrier? Will it handle it and is there any mods that have to be done. I am asking to help me decide on a rear bumper. If it will handle it then I may order a rear bumper without the tire carrier. | |

| I had to buy an adapter so mine would work, it raised it up and set it out a couple of inches. I ran it for about a year on the rear mount before I upgraded to a bumper carrier. No damage but I really felt like I was on borrowed time. I would take it off and leave it with the doors on moderate (+) wheeling trips. http://www.atozfabrication.com/store/Jeep-Wrangler-JK-Spare-Tire-Bracket.html | |

| Well I am looking on Morris 4X4 at there selection of rear bumpers and wast sure it I should spend the extra for the tire carrier style if the rear works fine. But I dont like the look of the 3RD brake light on the stock tire carrie. Can I remove the entire stock carrier if I go with the aftermarker tire carrier on the bumper? | |

| I just ordered the OR-FAB rear bumper. The tire carrier is separate and mounts to the body not the bumper so you could add it later. If I decide on 35s, that is what I will do (still thinking I'll just get 33s). | |

I did it through Northridge4x4.com. It's not on the website but you can call David there and he will hook you up - $385 shipped (but I have to wait 2-3 weeks). I got the sheet metal one, not the tubular one which is on his website. He's been helpful to me on JKF and I've bought from him before. I know that Quadratec carries it too. didn't see it on Trail Duty's site though.

| JK_JOE has the bumper and likes it. Someone in the club has the tire carrier, the name escapes me, but he went to the BBQ here a few weeks ago. He got the jerry can version and it looked stout. I like the idea of buying them separate and the bumper seemed reasonably priced. I believe the tire carrier replaces the stock one so you could run the stock one and if it breaks, replace it then????? | |

I am asking to help me decide on a rear bumper. If it will handle it then I may order a rear bumper without the tire carrier. Ok, So my dad bought a '09 4-door with the mopar lift and 35's. stock spare carrier was replaced by the dealership with besttop oversize carrier. After about 3 months he noticed that when he closed the tailgate the top of the gate was about 1/8 of an inch farther away from the tub than the bottom. I looked at the setup and noticed that while the replacement carrier and bushings gives it plenty of support from above and center, there was no support from the bottom at all. At the time I was running 33 10.50 17s and had no issue at all. When I decided to go to 35 12.50s I was prepared to run without a spare or just throw it in the back because I didn't/dont have the funds for a rear carrier/bumper. But after some measuring and thinking I figured out that a spidertrax spacer on the stock carrier would move the spare out just enough that when I shut the gate, the back of the tire would rest against the bumper naturally. But If you are going to buy a bumper, why not get the carrier too? Sorry for the absurdly long post. -Kenny

| Why are you guys talking about needing to trim the stock bumper? You shouldn't need to trim anything with a 12.5 wide tire and the correct back spacing on your wheel. If you are still running stock wheels then you are probably running with wheel spacers already and would need one for the spare too. But if you have aftermarket wheels I doubt you would need to trim anything. I have had 2 different wheels with 35s on my factory tire carrier and never had any rubbing issues. | |

| I've got the XD Hoss wheels with 35 12.5s and it wouldnt even go ON the tire carrier because it wouldnt clear the bumper. Like I said, I put a spidertrax spacer behind it, and now it just "contacts the rear bumper. | |

Interesting... My old wheels, now my wifes were the same 9"wide with -12 offset which is 4.5" backspacing and didn't have any issues on the carrier. I guess your tires are closer to 35" than mine since 35" is never really 35". My current wheels have 3.5 backspacing so there is no way I would hit bumper. I still plan to get an aftermarket tire carrier eventually. I currently don't see any problems with it on the tailgate, however over time it may happen.

| Yeah, every tire type measures different. I want to bumper and carrier mainly because I've drug spare on exit from an obstacle on a few occasions. | |

Phil (Trail Duty) has a vendor account with most companies and can get about everything you want. I have purchased OR -Fab, Viair, Black rock and other parts through him that aren't on the site. He can order with his vendor account through quadratec also.
