what are the brakes doing? Does the pedal go right to the floor?
Is the pedal rock solid w/no braking power? (air pack issue)
The A3s have a split braking system with 2 "circuits" (front axle is on its closed loop as well as rear 2 axles) as opposed to the A2 w/a single circuit braking system. Its pretty rare for both sides of the A3 brakes to fail so its probably an issue w/the MS or air packs.

I have a 1968 M35A2 and the brake issues are pretty similar.
