Well it happened yesterday on the way home from a funeral the trans in my YJ went bang It is a 5 speed and a 2.5 1995 model. My question is what other year or engine trans will work in it? Thanks in advance .

David,

Here's what I found:

2.5L I-4's: For all years, the only manual transmission is the Aisin-Warner AX-5, 5 speed.
** Note: In 1994, the slave cylinder on manual transmissions was moved outside of the transmissions bellhousing to allow for easier replacement.

I think the gearing is the differance you have 4.88s and I have 4.11s also the trans may be differant mine is a 5 speed what do you haveand I run a 31X10.5 but I have gotten that milage and better many times I usr Berrymans B12 chemtool in the gas at least every three tanks.

I have a 5 speed too. It has to be gearing. With the 4.88 at 70mph I am revving around 3000-3100 RPM. I think if I go with 35" tires I could bring those rpms down a bit to get better gas mileage or at least that would be my excuse when the time comes to get new tires.

I am with you there the 35's should make a differance with my 4:11's and 31's I am turning about 2200 rpms at 65-70 and my speedo is off 5 mph by the gps.
