| As I was rebuilding my entire steering system(tie rods, tie rod ends, track bar) in the parkinglot of the auto part store in kerrville today.. I was thinking back on all the off road mechanical work Ive done over the years.. Countless number of u-joints.. Putting a tire back on the bead with a ratchet strap , ether and a lighter.. Helped swap a transmission in a mud hole.. Swam under my willys cj-2a to repair my clutch pedal spring... Rebuilt many carbs that sucked in muddy crap.. And so many "limp out" jobs I don't know where to start...
Bring on the stories if ya got any

| Since I bought the jeep in 2008. Putting a tire back on the bead with a ratchet strap, replacing the clutch, u-joints, fuel pump, axles, front locker, built the t-case, lift, etc ... and replaced the engine (Thank you Randy!) I have learned a lot in the last few years! | |

| Re-wired the ECM on a CJ-5 in the rain . It had gotten hung up on the steering shaft at some point and wrapped itself around it in all different directions, causing all kinds of chaos.
I,ve lain on my back in 6'' of red clay mud to ziptie the shifting linkage on one of my brand new company vehicles.
I cant even begin to count the quck-fixes involving zipties, tape, bailing wire, etc that I've made on mine and others motorcycles...

| I think off road mechanicing is where I've actually learned the most. It's amazing how well u learn how to improvise.. Like using a branch for a prybar or a rock for a hammer. Even using mud to keep the skeeters off while you finish your last hot beer at 1am in the swamp waiting for someone to get to u with a part or tool.. | |

| As a volunteer fire fighter I have spent my share of time in sand ,mud and ash trying to fix junk fire trucks to keep protecting the community for free. The best one was rewiring a 1972 American LaFrance pumper on the side of the road at 0300 getting done in time to take a shower and head to work.Sbfirekid is learning to be a very good mechenic in sand at PINS and parking lots on SPID he can change a slave cylinder on my YJ in about five minutes, I sure am glad I didn't put him in a burlap sack with a rock and throw him in the river HAHA love ya David. | |
