PostSubject: GenRight Off-Road Rock Guard installation   GenRight Off-Road Rock Guard installation Icon_minitimeSun 04 Mar 2012, 5:25 am

I installed the GenRight Off-Road rock guards today with help from fellow JKO members AJE and Stacman7. Here are some pictures and tips to make for a quick and successful installation for anyone looking to install them:

INSTRUCTIONS:
1. The first step is identifying the inner frame assembly and the matching 6 holes on the pinch seam with the 6 holes on the frame assembly. Place the "large holed" clips on the pinch seam (there are small holed clips as well so make sure and check).

2. Line up the frame assembly after placing the clips on the pinch seam:

3. This is what it should look like when it has bolts holding the frame assembly to the pinch seam:

4. Top View of the frame assembly with the kick plate sitting on top of it:

5. Must remove all the pinch seam bolts prior to mounting the frame assembly:

6. the 2nd hole to the right must be reamed out to fit a larger bolt to properly mount the rock guard:

7. There will be 6 brass looking bolts for each side rock guard. Ensure you use these bolts on the frame assembly mount to the pinch seat.

8. The holes are reamed out and ready for the 6 brass looking bolts:

9. AJE reaming out on of the holes for the brass looking bolts:

10. Don't forget to take out the pinch seam bolts:

11. Ensure you have paint to touch up from where the bolt was at:

12. Mount the frame assembly and prepare to connect/adjust the kick plate and rock guard:

13. Installation of the frame assembly bolts:

14. Installation of the frame assembly complete. Place 13 of the "small holed" mounting clips on the frame assembly....the clips will be used along with the "long" hex bolts to connect the kick plate, rock gaurd skid and frame assembly together:

15. Place the kick plate on top of the frame assembly and mark the drilling holes on the side of the Jeep body using the holes on the kick plate. Be sure to place the 13 mounting bolts on the kick plate to Frame assembly through the mounting clips:

16. You can use a sharpie marker to mark the drill points with the kick plate lined up. I used a 1/4" drill bit (because the marker I had wasn't working) and rotated it a few times to make markings on the tub using the holes in the kick plate where the mounting bolts will go:

17. After marking the tub for drilling points, remove the kick plate and begin drilling. I used a 1/4" drill bit to make the starting hole and then used a 23/64" drill bit (just smaller than the "expanding" part of the nutsert) to ensure a tight fitting nutsert:

18. Install the nutserts using a rivnut/nutsert tool:

19. Install the short hex screws through the kick plate into the nutserts:

20. When completed, follow the same steps for the other side:

21. After completing the nutsert installation on the passenger side, use something to draw/mark an angle across the pinch seam to cut off. Use a sawzall or cutting wheel to cut off the rear pinch seam. After you cut it, you can use a dremel or other tool to smooth it out and then primer/paint to keep it from rusting:
NOTE: You do not need to cut a lot off of the rear pinch seam to fit the rock guard skid.

22. Disconnect the 3 body mount bolts from each side of the Jeep between the front and rear wheels. You will re-use the rear 2 body mount bolts. The front body mount bolt is replaced with longer bolt from GenRight Off-Road along with a 1" spacer and large washer. The large washer stays with the bolt head. The 1" spacer goes between the larger body space (look through the fender well into the body cavity) above where the bolt comes through bottom of the jeep. You will not put the bolts back in until after the Rock Guard skid is attached to the kick plate and rock guard frame assembly.

23. After cutting off the back pinch seam corner, install the rock guard skid to the kick plate and frame assembly using 13 long hex screws:

24. Once the rock guard skid is attached to the kick plate and frame assembly, use the 2 existing body mount bolts and the one longer body mount bolt with 1" spacer (provided by GenRight Off-Road) to finish securing the rock guards as well as the tub of the body!

** NOTE: When you have completed these steps, you are finished with both sides of the rock sliders.
