I am seriously considering moving to a new department (either police or sheriff) and the areas I am looking into are the coastal plains and the TX hill country.

Would anyone have any input as to one over the other? Pros/Cons? Know a good city/county to live/work in?
Thanks

bump bump!

I enjoy living out here in west texas but I miss being able to be involved with anything really.
I know its surprising but there isn't much out there way besides dust and more dust lol.
My friends and family all live down that way. All my 4x4/jeep clubs are centered around south/central/east tx and the same goes for all my powerstroke and military vehicle groups.

Personally I love the hill country but remain tied down on the edges of San Antonio for work. I'd love to move out to at least Bandera or Quihi...

I'm not really sure what you're asking. Are you asking about offroading stuff? A place to raise a family? A great party town? Or something else?

just in general. I dont have a kids and when we get married, we aren't planning on having kids. Im looking for a nice all around good place to live. Doesn't have to be near 4x4ing, or a great party town...just not a place where I will see drug deals going down outside of my house or my car up on blocks when I wake up in the morning

My family has land up in Johnson City. It's a cool little town with lots of history. That is where I will retire one fine day......Yep, 33 years old and already thinking about retirement.

I guess that all depends on to what extent you like small towns and/or being out in the country and what restrictions (if any) you have due to work. I could live in Boerne or outside Kerrville, maybe in the Harper or Fredericksburg area and be perfectly content except that the farther out I go the more of a pain it is to live life in general. Especially since I would have to commute that much farther.

So I live in northwest San Antonio in a decent neighborhood and enjoy it. Everything's close by, including the hill country. Other than my house being broken into recently (quick smash and grab deal as seems to flare up around SA every few years, nothing important taken just crap like game systems and Blu-rays and watches), I've never been the victim of a crime out here, and a CHL is respected nearly anywhere you go. I have friends here who are SO, Constables, and SAPD, and I don't live where they work, namely the south and east sides, though the west side can get kind of rough depending on where you are. Most of north San Antonio is pretty damn tame compared to many major cities, and it ranks near the bottom in terms of violent crime (but up there in property crime).
