| Yep, I told my sons they could NEVER get a motorcycle even when they are 50 years old, you know I'm a nurse and have seen too much. Its not the rider of the motorcycle that is the worry, it's all the other crazy people that just don't care. | |

| man i ride a cycle (not a croch rocket, a cruiser) i want to tell you from experience, when you jump on your bike every one in a car/truck/semi is going to try to run you over, cut you off, or kill you any way they can, you have to watch every one. also if its avail in your area take a class, in ohio they have one that you can go to and learn to ride the correct way and at the end of it they give you a cert to take to the bmv to get your lic. better to learn there, in that kind of setting than to learn on the road. BE CAREFUL, every time you ride pretend like every one you see in a car wants to run you over. have fun and be safe | |

| Dude... I've been riding my entire life. 2 months ago my 23yr son said he was going to get a bike to save gas. I told him "Don't you dare!". I'm a lifelong rider (started riding when I was 9yrs), and I know how dangerous city driving is- no one should ever ride in the city until they have been riding out in the country for years. You just don't have the skills to handle city. OK... You've done it. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE go take the Motorcycle Safety Foundation riders course. The closest classes are at the Fort Bend Fairgrounds in Rosenberg. Cost is $190 - the BEST $190 you'll ever spend! They furnish the bikes, so you don't have to worry about messing up your own. And once you take/pass the class, you don't have to take the riding exam to get your license, you only have to take the written exam. Here's a link to their schedules: http://clients.eoffice-online.com/?page=22&loc=6 Shannon took the course when she wanted to learn. She had never even driven a car with a manual transmission, so she didn't even know how to use a clutch and shift. By the end of the first day of class she was able to rider her motorcycle around our neighborhood. By the end of day 2, she was very very good at handling it. | |

| When I was young and dumb (before I bought my first 4x4) I road an enduro on the street and trail. Back then (mid 80's) the state mandated the motorcycle training class. If that is not the case anymore I whole heartedly reccommend taking one. I still ride, but only in the dirt and would not consider riding on pavement again. My life is more valuable than a few saved gas dollars. | |

Nope, they don't mandate it. I didn't know they ever did??? I got my motorcycle license when I was 16yrs, and did not take any course- just went down and passed the driving and written test. But the reality is the state should mandate it. In fact, IMHO it should be mandated that you must take it and have a M driver's license before you can even buy a bike. A buddy of mine used to own a Suzuki dealership. He could tell you stories about people buying a new bike and wrecking on the way home. One particular guy didn't even make it out of the parking lot! Paid cash for a bike, got on it, popped the clutch flew across the parking lot, across a street (thank got no cars were coming) and into a ditch- $2000 in damage to the bike, and the guy had to be taken to the hospital with multiple broken bones.

I'm pretty sure the class was mandatory, maybe it was because I was only 14 at the time. Maybe my parents only presented it as mandatory. I took the class the two weekends before my 15th birthday so on my birthday I could take my motorcycle driving test down at the DMV.

| congratulations on the bike!! Please be careful and take the course. I'm going to miss my bike but my riding days are over for now anyways. It was really stressful riding at times because you have to stay so focused and I don't know how many times people cut me off or I had to react super quick to avoid accidents. So please wear a helmet and be careful. Nice looking bike!!!! Get out in the country with it and you will have a blast riding. City riding sucks!!!! you really don't get to enjoy the ride. | |

| Im familiar with bikes been riding my whole life.Ive researched this and its madatory that any person between 15 and 17 have to take the motocycle safety majiger class and then you have to take the written. I took the test in the book and only missed one question. My dad also used to ride street bikes. he was driving one day and a lady pulled out in fron of him. He flew over the handlebars and wrecked. yes I know the dangers. My dad already dropped the dang thing. | |

| I have wanted a bike ever since I graduated High School.....and all I ever heard was, "No, you'll kill yourself." So, now that I am a married adult, I wanted to get a Gold Wing Aspencade...and all I ever hear now in Spanish is, "No, you'll kill yourself and I'll be rich."
As an aside, I have a friend that works in an ER here in Houston, and every time he sees someone on a motorcyle he says, "Look, there goes a potential organ donor"....
