| Looking to buy a CJ5, this will be for Michelle. I don’t want a project car so it has to be in good running condition with minimal rust. Preferable white in color (or light gray, desertsand, light yellow) but I can have it painted. Looking in the price range of $3,000-$4,000 or less
If you are my FB friend please don’t mention anything on my facebook wall since it’s a surprise.
Thanks! Raul

| I hate to break it to you, but a non-project CJ5 in good running condition with minimal rust is hard enough to come by regardless of color choice, and within the $2k to $4k range is unlikely. Not impossible, necessarily, but they're not exactly a dime a dozen. If you can raise it up to more like $8k you'll have a much better shot, I think. | |

I know under $4,000 is hard to get but I was hopping you guys will help me find it. There are a few on Craigslist that I have found right at or a little under that price. They are not perfect and I have not looked at them but according to the owner it runs and they don’t look bad at all from the photos. There is one that is $5,500 that I am leaning towards but is over $4,000. Here is what I have found online: 1961 4cyl for $4,000 (possible need to add power steering and upgrade brakes?) 1964 4cyl for $4,200 (possible need to add power steering and upgrade brakes? 1974 6cyl (engine and trans just rebuilt) for $5,500 1981 2.5L 4cyl for $3,600 (probably need to add tailgate for easy dog entry) This jeep will be only used for weekend drives around town, few trips to the vet office and also to the beach. So it wont get big tires (max 31") or will be modify for rocks or anything like it.

| Picked one up yesterday in Houston. 73 CJ5, minimal rust, everything seems to be working fine. I do need to add power steering but the seller gave me the power steering box and pump that he had in his garage. It is hiding it at a friend's house. Will give it to my GF probably next month. I am sure she will be happy! | |

| Thanks guys!!
Took the work day off this Tuesday to replace the windshield get it inspected and registered so is completely legal to drive.
I do need to add power steering and new brakes. I am thinking in converting the front drums to disk since it takes a while to stop the 33” tires it has. Or maybe I could just trade the 33s for 30s or 31s?? don’t know how much that will help with the stopping power but it should be better.
If I keep the 33s I would probably add a 1" body lift to make more room for the tires but I am leaning towards trading the tires but we will see.

| Nice looking jeep Raul!
I like the look of it with those tires on it. They seem to be low mileage so you could possibly sell/trade them for smaller tires if you wanted.

Just a thought, Top Gun Customz has a nice 4" lift kit for 400 bucks. I put it on my sons truck. Its good stuff and easy to install. Gonna order it for mine soon. I think it will work good with my 31's for now. Ill go 33's when I use these tires up.

| Narrow track CJ7 axles will work, won't they? If so, I know where you can get a D30 and built-to-hell, cut-down 8.8, both with disk brakes, Detroits, and 4.88 gears. Currently sprung over under my buddy's 79 CJ7, and he has a D60 and 14bff sitting there just waiting to swapped out. The spring-over setup will have to go anyway in case you want to go that route (might have to find YJ springs for it as I think he's keeping his). | |
