| Yes it has the 4.2l AMC 258 but it is making a knocking noise dad said its either a wrist pin or value. Looking at the fuel injection kit, it has leaf spring and foil? So looking at the lift too. I guess those are pretty expensive places to start! After that I have no idea which way to go! My dad was going to put a v8 in it. My husband recently put a Chevy v8 in his cj7 so I'm considering it but really I like the straight line 6 so I'm not sure. Any suggestions? | |

| I think it will be. It's really clean for an 88 so its a good start! I have been doing a little reading on line and there is so much you can do to your jeep! | |

| Like I mentioned...that was on my to do list for that engine. Mine was a dog! If you have the cash, think about that injection conversion. my .02. I put a simple lift on mine as well. Couple hundred bones for new springs/shackles if my mind serves me right. But that was back in '94 -'96 | |

| Get it mechanically sound and then add a mild lift.
If you can't get the straight 6 back in shape without dropping some serious money, think about a late model v8 swap. I'm a fan of V8s in Jeeps. A nice 5.3L would work nicely. A 5.3 motor/trans is pretty reasonable plus you'll have MPFI, which is very nice on the trail. | |

| Welcome, My opinion, I have three jeeps, 77 j10 amc360, 79 cj5 & 86 cj7 straight 6. All were converted to electronic ignition and a ford 2100 carb. Do the carb and distributor conversion ($300.00) and leave it alone. My $0.02. Enjoy | |
