| 5:13's have officially destroyed my social budget! :seestars: Bad news is, they're back ordered until July. Hopefully I will receive tham and be able to get them installed before our Shiloh trip. | |

| Well after asking G about the install this weekend and his comment on putting in a locker at the same time, I think I will try to come up with the extra cash to do it all at once, but not the ARB like I thought I had wanted. Too much money! I am thinking a Detroit try-trac or Aussie locker like G. Got to figure it into my budget. | |

The lunch box lockers like the aussie are the best bang for your buck and you can't go wrong with them. Yes, the full case lockers are stronger but at a cost. You will not have any problems with the aussie or similar runnig 35 -37's with our little 6 cyl. especially at half the price.

| i donno jeff, G already busted his spider gears & carrier. I was gonna order an aussie too, then G went & broke his carrier. that got me thinking after axle shafts are upgraded, then ring & pinion, then an aussie locker, the weak point moved to the carrier. then G went & confirmed my fears. so i went with ARB. just gotta get eh $$ together to get it installed | |

| yeah G broke the factory shit then replaced them with the aussie. G wheels the crap out of that thing and the Aussie has been awesome to us! If I had to do it all over again i would still go with Aussie! | |

| no doubt the aussie is the best bang for the buck. but still the weakest points will be the carrier and/or axle shaft u-joints. but since the carrier went 1st, kinda hints at it being the weakest link.
nothing against the aussie locker, prolly the best upgrade for the $$ hands down. but i also wanted to upgrade the carrier & the only way for me to do that was with a high $$ locker with a stronger carrier.
on a side note though, if ox-locker had annouced the super 30 kit before i ordered the ARB, i would've gone with the ox-locker kit with 30 spline shafts for the D30. ps sorry about the :threadhijacked

And then he broke the axle shaft u-joint almost immediately after installing the Aussie The question then is: Was the u-joint already weak and ready to break, or did it break because of the aussie?

| Going to havr to call G and see what he thinks based on my plans. I am going to stick with 35's for the foreseeable future and plan on adding chromo shafts front and rear. That may warrant the extra jack for the ARB, but I'd ratehr have expert advice than go on just a hunch. | |

| One thing I`ve always heard and rarely see is a concept called "built it to break". The idea being build up your rig with high quality strong parts like the shafts, carriers etc., and go with weaker links like u-joints. That way when something goes, you pretty much know exactly what broke and it`s easier and maybe cheaper to fix rather than having to switch out a major component on the trail. I`ve always been a fan of this idea. | |

| thats a good idea, in theory IMHO. if the u-joint breaks it can destroy the "ears" of the axle shafts. so u-joint goes and takes out axles shaft with it. result = need to replace whole assembly anyways. spider gears break, who carries them as trail spares? carrier breaks, allowing flex and takes out spider gears. i like to try to build it not to break and hope my planning works out :christianpray3 . now by replacing all the components i have full replacements for everything (cept the axle housing). now i got trail spares for that "worse case senario." | |
