| Workin' on removing rear axle from the JK now to replace the gears. Have to take front and rears about 50 miles to get it done since person I wanted to do it - isn't / doesn't anymore. So... Axles - retainer at the end of the tube? Or "C" clips at the carrier? And the parking brake / cable? I figured out how. Thought had better ask before I break something. Thanks.... | |

| There are four bolts on the axle retaining plate. Look behind the wheel and you'll see them. Once those are out, the axle should come out with no problem. There are no c clips at the carrier.
I think the parking brake can be disconnected up by the gas tank. I did it when I took the body off my JK and I'm pretty sure it's up there. It was pretty easy too. | |

| Thanks, was looking at the brake cable there at the end of the axle tube, wasn't sure how it came apart. will follow it up to the splitter I guess - and unhook it there. may be simpler there anyway. or the only way.
I have removed the 4 nuts on the back side of the brake shield. Need to look in my slide hammer drawer and see if I still own the adapter to pull the axle. Seems like I can also remember attaching a log chain to one of the lug bolts, 6 ft or so long - and flicking it like a whip - and it would pop the axle out. Something I kinda remember hearing would work years ago....
Have a brakes question, but will start a new thread for it...
Thanks for the help. | |
