| Anyone have nitrogen filled tires? Worth my time or no? My fiancee's car has them, and she was wondering about putting it in my jeep. | |

| I was wondering the same thing when I was searching for data on using CO2 and ran across this Web Site with the following statement: Nitrogen in tires is becoming a popular replacement for standard air. Nitrogen is all around us... the air we breathe is 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen and the rest is small amounts of other gasses. When it comes to tire inflation, nitrogen has many advantages over oxygen. With nitrogen tire inflation, improvements can be noted in a vehicle's handling, fuel efficiency and tire life through better tire pressure retention, improved fuel economy and cooler running tire temperatures. Here at the Get Nitrogen Institute our goal is to provide consumers, over-the-road truckers, fleet managers and others information about the benefits of using nitrogen in tires.I would have to be convinced that there is more benefit than air. Pure nitrogen is dangerous stuff - I have seen first hand two people who had died due to an oxygen deficient atmosphere - they were dealing with liquid nitrogen in a huge tank so it is not exactly the same but it does have it's dangers. You gotta watch out for that winter vs summer air in those tires though.... that summer stuff is hot and YOUR winter stuff is damn cold. | |

| What about when you go wheeling and air down and have to air back up? | |

yep = that is basically the deal killer for me. I am not 100% convinced to use a CO2 tank cause I unlimited access to air and tanks. The CO2 just has a cool factor though...

| bad thing about CO2 is it expands more than compressed air and way more than nitrogen when the tire gets hot. I used to play paintball, in the mornings (like 7 or we'd air up 2 tanks or so, then play. by mid afternoon when it'd get real hot, the tanks that were "topped off" sometimes burst the burst disc. so it's possible that after you air up to 35 psi, by the time you get home, you may have like 45 psi. nitrogen is just more stable and a cleaner gas... not all that important in a tire unless your racing and tire temp & psi are super important. | |

| I've never had an issue with c02 expanding too much. | |

| 10 psi is nothing unless you already aired up to the max pressure when the tire was cold. that is the only prob. but that's why i said it wasnt really important in a tire unless you're racing.... like in nascar or at the track, etc. for our app, co2 is fine. that's why i never turn it down when its offered to me. beats the hell outta driving miles to the gas station to air up again. btw, anyone able to spot me some co2 at the TSJM ??? | |

| I don't know of anyone who airs up to max pressure hot or cold. Most people I talk to air up 10-15 lbs less. My 32's get 35 psi. | |

exactly!! actually, most ppl i know only air up to about 50% maybe 60%. the max pressure on my 285s is 65 psi. i only put 35 psi. I like co2. i was just stating why some tout it as a "better" option. in our use, they should be about the same. nitrogen tanks are about the same to fill. it ron gets the tanks and the fill for free, then it's his best option. FREE is my favorite. that's why i'm looking at using my paintball tank to air up my tires. i gotta do the math, though. 68 cubic inches at 4500 psi. if it costs me $10.00 for the air fittings and only $4.00 to fill, then it's the best option for me... til income taxes.
