| root of what is wrong.
We are teaching kids that failure is just as good as success. Of course in the adult world, just the opposite is true.

| yea, thats like playing a basketball game where there is a time clock, but they dont keep score or baseball where everyone bats every inning and everyone has a position. Never seen a baseball game with 12 players on it. Its getting so bad nowdays that Junior High School coaches wont cut anybody from the team. They would rather have an A, B,and C team than to have actual tryouts and just have an A and B team. Then when these kids get all the way to High School, reality hits them. They are then told that they have been cut or are not any good to make the team. So i Vote sure, give em all Trophies and Milk and Cookies and big hugs and kisses. MAKES ME WANNA PUKE..... :duh: | |

| i remember going to little league baseball tryouts for the YMCA when i was around 8 years old. we got put through a skills evaluation and graded. that let us and our parents know what we needed to work on and the teams were loaded accordingly. i also remember our "trophy" was the team picture - proof that we played. it seems that any symbol of success is being watered down by the unsuccessful people who have plenty of time to do so. | |

| Hmmmmm
Kids expecting a trophy for showing up to play regardless of how they perform.
Sounds like people working at Wall Mart expecting great pay and benefits.
Maybe if we stop the cradle to grave entitlement mentality as kids we will have more self sufficient adults????????

| I think it's stupid, I agree each kid needs a pat on the back but I also think they need to learn to be all they can be. They should only be awarded for winning or really doing a good job.
Do I think that's whats wrong with the world today?
NO HELL NO
Parents are whats wrong with the world today, how many of you have bought you child a Wii or a play station 3? Would your parents have spent 300 or 400 dollars on a video game for you?
Shit when the first Nintendo came out I wanted it soooo bad, I remember it was 199.99 at federated it came with two controllers a gun and the combo game with mario and duck hunt, I told my parents that I wanted it, you know what they said
"if you get stright A's on your report card this semester, and keep your room clean we will pay for half of it"
Ok so I had to do all of that and come up with 100 bucks on my own, I mowed yards, walked dogs, washed cars, cleaned my brothers house and the list goes on!
Kids today get everything they want and don't have to work for it, so they think when they are grown it works the same way, I can do a half ass job, be lazy and still get everything I want.
PARENTS ARE TO BLAME.......WHO DO YOU THINK SUGGESTED THAT ALL THE KIDS GET TROPHYS?

| Nintendo? HA try the original Atari that retailed for over $300 new. And yes, my parents bought it for the family for Xmas- no stipulations.
unfortunately I can't agree with you Jennie. I guess I was one of them spoiled kids. Had a mini bike at 7yr, and a motorcycle (Honda 100) at 9, a Suzuki 125 at 13, and a Suzuki 185 at 15. Mind you all the motorcycles were hand-me-downs from my older siblings, and they were used when Dad originally bought them. But there was no stipulations put on them. The only stipulation ever put on the motorcycles was that I had to do all maintenance and repairs myself (should've seen me at 12yrs old doing a complete teardown of the engine when the cylinder needed bored- yes, did it all myself with a Clymer manual per Dad's stipulation).
But I digress. Material items are just that- material items. Kids will live with or without them. Those things are not going to instill morals and values into kids. That's up to the parents to do. I may have had a lot of things given to me that other kids never got. But my parents put the morals in me, that I saw a LOT of kids around me were lacking. And those kids ended up into crime or dead-end job.
Giving kids material items does not make them good or bad. Teaching them right & wrong does.

| I was the same way N2rock. Left 2 weeks after graduating HS and been on my own ever since. Wish I would have learned a few of those lessons jennie talked about earlier in life.
I appreciate all the stuff I worked for and earned a lot more than stuff that was given to me because I was spoiled.
To each their own though. Kids seem to grow up and be OK in spite of their parents

But I was smart enough to stay in school and finish it (thankfully). Spent the following 2 years delivering pizzas and then realized I needed college to ever better myself. Worked full time and did college full time. Student loans baby! LOL But again- It was the values that my parents instilled in me that made me excel. That was the best gift my parents gave me.

| Don't get me wrong I was spoiled too. Heck I had a brand new car every year of high school. But I had to work for every bit of it. If my grades slipped a little I had to ride the bus not drive my new car! If my grades slipped more I had to give up my designer clothes and wear jogging pants to school. My parents taught me morals and they taught me to work hard for what I want. But then again I was raised by an E9 Master Chief in the Navy | |

| i coached T-ball for my son in the early 90's and i didnt know (till i started coaching) all the kids had to play all the positions every inning , if possible
and all that other PC crap needless to say that was the last time i coached that sissy crap
kids need to learn what failure costs them not that it is ok to fail due to laziness of for lack of determination
i hated the fact that there was 1 kid who's dad played with him all the time and he was awesome, at 4 he could catch ever fly ball and play every position way, way better than all the other kids on any team we faced but he got the same praise and crap as all the others while he earned the trophy all the others also got one basically telling him, no need to try just sit on your hands and you will be a winner too!
we never won 1 game, but not for that kids effort he alone was good enough to win for the team but i had to stop him from making everyone one else look bad (lazy) so we always lost

| I don't mind if every kid gets a trophy, I just think they should be appropriatly distributed and there should be some "Truth in Labeling" on the plaque. "1st place, 2nd place and 3rd place" are obvious. Maybe a "Good Sportsmanship" for the kids who shows it. Then how about a "LOL" for the kids who are just a little awkward. A "LMAO" for the really awkward kids. A chocolate trophy for the fat kids (yes, one that they can eat). A "OMG" for the kids who do something totally wrong but end in positive ways. And a "WTF" for the kids who run the wrong way or do something totally stupid. Just my thoughts, please feel free to add to the list. | |

| How about "YAY, you made it all the way to 3rd base, and you ran like you had a stick up your ass the whole time". That was an actual quote told to me from some punk ass in the 5th grade. Fucker. I didn't get that trophy | |
