As sad as this is to say, offroading in all forms is such a small business that employs just a small handful of people that in the grand scheme of things they don't particularly "matter". Oil and gas on the other hand are huge, employ hundreds of thousands of people, and generally hold more political capital than elected officials. It really is only a matter of time before this goes through one way or another. I'm not saying its good, nor am I advocating for it, but unfortunately it's the way of the world.
On a side note, I do find it ironic that most people that consider themselves 'wheelers' were in favor of the keystone pipeline, or any other sort of "job creating" venture by oil and gas companies, even though they might destroy a bird sanctuary or local marsh lands that some people personally enjoyed and created businesses to live off of. However, now that these same 'job creating' ventures are encroaching on what we enjoy, it should now be taken seriously and fought against? Ironic shit.
