| A co-worker of mine in an effort to beat gas prices, purchased online one of those Chinese built Vespa scooter knock-offs. $1000 delivered, 80mpg, top speed 50mph. He's been riding it to work daily for about 2 months now. Over that period I have been seeing it in the parking lot with pieces slowly missing - cosmetic stuff like chrome trim and reflectors, etc... He has collected each of the pieces as they have fallen off and glued them back on.
He always parks it over by the "smoking area". Yesterday while having a smoke I noticed a puddle of oil forming below it. Closer inspection showed that it had indeed developed a pretty bad oil leak which I quickly pointed out to him.
So... the scooter is 2 months old and has a total of 180 miles on it, and has developed a substantial oil leak. So considering the $1000 spent, and only 180 miles on it, I would say that he lost quite a bit of gas money instead of the savings he had intended. Sure makes you think twice about buying any of those cheap Chinese knock-off vehicles. | |
