| congrats! i know the cool feeling when you see them go without training wheels. i started riding without training wheels in 1st grade so i was 6 maybe 7. my oldest, Zach rode without training wheels when he was 5 almost 6. then not to be out done, my youngest - ryan did it a week before his 4th birthday. he is 4 1/2 now and tries to ride his big brother's bike. sad to say, i had nothing to do with this. one of our neighbors noticed he wasn't using the training wheels much, so she took them off. (my kids would go to a home daycare on our street after school). he took off and looked like easy. | |

| Mom should have videoed the part where dad runs his ass off behind the kid so in case they fall you can catch them. That was my favorite part when i was teaching them to ride. | |

That is funny actually, when he got home from school he asked me if I could take his training wheels off. I told him that I could but I wouldn't be able to push/run along side him (the whole broken back thing) - I figured that was the way that it was supposed to be done. I told him that he would have to wait until mom got home. He gave me the most disappointing look.... I thought about it for a few minutes and I found a way to make it work. I had him stand forward of the seat - in the "take off" position with one foot on the ground and one foot on the highest pedal. I said that he had to push down with the pedal foot and push off with the ground foot or it wouldn't work. All I had to do was give him a little push and off he went...... So he takes off and I immediately think to myself...... we didn't cover turning around or stopping so it was a matter of time before he ate it.. he fell over when he tried to turn and got right up. I covered turning and stopping with his sister... lessons learned And NFW on the on the matches..... | |
