Review...Auto Vision Guard Empty

This initial review is being performed while at work, so it will be limited.

I received the item yesterday from UPS. Packaging was good, which was a relief since UPS elected to deliver it by throwing it over 6-7' patio door/wall.

Upon opening:

EVERYTHING was included, plus a couple of extras Review...Auto Vision Guard Icon_scratch The extras included instructions for the license plate camera (which I don't have) and a small remote control (that doesn't appear to work with this used and is not included in the packing list). The instructions are very good, with pics/drawings (most people will have no problems installing this).

The mirror and camera do not have a "cheap" feel. However, the middle button on the mirror quiggles more than the other two.

The mirror is larger than stock:

Here it is installed (1 min install, using 1 screw):

The mirror does sit higher than stock. This will be changed at a later date (personal perference) and will not be a big issue.
The mirror is tinted, but the reflection is good. However, do to it sitting higher and my sitting position...it does aim downward more than I like...thus the reason for the move later.

So far, so good.

Sorry for the crap pics.

So, I decided to quickly wire up the mirror and camera to see how they work.

When the mirror has power, there are small blue led lights above the 3 buttons/switches. The left switch, turns on the light map light. The middle switch turns on the monitor, along with controling the 2 modes of brightness. The right switch turns on the right map light. Not sure, but I have a feeling the map lights are going to be worthless to me due to position...but they came with it.

Here are some pictures. Note, it is very bright out here right now and the sun is beaming directly into the windshield. Also remember the camera is not installed and it has a reverse image.

"bright" mode:

"dim" mode:

and another, to also show the blue lights:

The monitor does not have the lines (visible to the eye), the above was zoomed in.

So what now...

I don't like the camera. But, I had a feeling I wouldn't. The good news is the camera can be easily replaced, because its connected via S-Video. I will be getting a day/night camera later.

The mirror also has back up sensors. I have not used them yet. The image for them is located on the right side of the mirror, past the monitor. When not in use, it is barely visible.

There is a buzzer for the sensors. I have yet to connect it also. So I don't know how annoying it will be.

The monitor itself...hmmm, haven't decided yet. Its nothing fancy, but hey the whole thing was $100 + shipping!

The best part I like about this setup is that it replaces the stock mirror.

Future plans...too early still...but thinking I might install a video switch for multi camera use

Joe,

Great feedback. Look forward to seeing it in person, keep a list of the upgrades you will need to make it more functional.
I plan to install something similar at some point.
