Rustys, I thought that's where everyone was going LOL, good to have you, yes, this thread is about Rusty's but there was some side talk going on. I will post up maps and stuff in a few days....still awaiting information on the price for primitive camping someone asked about earlier. Renee are you guys coming down for the day or spending the night? And if spending the night are you planning on staying at the site or locally in a hotel? Just trying to get a head count together.

CB isn't a necessity out there, its not big enough to get lost on unless you jump a fence and run off through someones elses property and in that case we would disown you anyways

Here is info for the place, it looks like he will let you camp down by the creek in the bottoms (no water in the creek) for $10 per night. Rusty's Walnut Creek Ranch (512) 304-5880 394 Pleasant Chapel Rd, Cedar Creek, TX 78612 http://rustyswalnutcreekranch.net/index.htmlThe Walnut Creek Ranch Bunkhouse is more than just a place to sleep. It has a full kitchen, dining area, den, toilets, shower, washer & dryer and beds for ten. Bring your own linens and pillows for the beds or sleeping bags if you have more than ten. The bunkhouse can be rented by the night, weekend, or weekly. Overnight rate is 125.00 There is plenty of room to park your trucks and trailers. There are also plenty of pens for your horses. This includes use of the bunkhouse, trailer parking, 10.00 per horse this includes pen water trails and arena facilities. If you really want to rough it, bring your camping gear. You can camp down on the creek in the pecan bottoms for $10.00 per person. Camping includes use of trails, arenas, toilets & sinks.

| UPDATE: Joe and I went out to Rusty's today to check the trails. The trails have changed quite a bit since the last time we wheeled out there, they were quite overgrown from all the rains we have had the last several months. We trimmed back quite a bit to try and protect the purty paint jobs and soft top windows. There is still some stuff that will jump out and grab you if your nit paying attention We also had to clear the trails of some fallen trees and frankly there were just too many trees down for us to do a complete job, but the trails we can access are passable. Now about that "trails that are passable" statement. Here's the low down on the trails on the south side The first portion of trail where we normally begin the run is going to be a no go, the creek is damned up with tree debris from some flash floods and the creek is holding water. The good news is the middle part of the trail is passable. However, the trails have changed quite a bit due to the flooding and there are some wash outs. This makes the trails more challenging. What used to be a steep bill climb, is now. Steep hill climb with a more vertical drop at the bottom. This mixed with some soft earth and mud made it a challenge, I'm sure Joe will post some pics and I'll let him expand on what we learned today . The point I'm trying to get to is that the trails are shorter due water in the first half, but the shorter portion we will run is more challenging so it will take us longer to get through. Some of the newer wheelers or people with 100% stock rigs are gonna struggle a bit, but I do believe we will get everyone through and is someone doesn't feel comfortable with one of the hill climbs, etc. We will hook up a strap which will provide a sense of security a gently pull you up. We don't look down on that so it's ok to ask. But honestly, I think everyone will have a good time and will make it through unscathed. Unfortunately we did not make it over to the hard side, we ran out of time, I guess it will be a surprise when we get there . Just bear with us on the run, since the trails changed up, we had to figure out some new ways through so the trail is relatively new to us too. Look at joes pictures and ask Note: I am without Internet until later in the week and have limited access, so I can't move Joe's pictures over here, they are posted in the run thread on jkowners if you want to see them. | |

| RUN CANCELLED
Ok, I called Rusty. He advised that they did get some rain out there today but wasn't sure if it would cause problems.
But since the creek was already wet and iffy on Sunday, I made the call to cancel this run based on the fact that any moisture in the creek from the rain and any runoff would make the creek un-runnable (new word i invented).
I didn't want people driving in from all over and being disappointed.
We will look at the calendar and schedule for some time around the end of July and go out and get the entire trail back in good shape in the meantime.
For anyone local, we still plan in having the meet and greet Saturday nite at around 7pm to watch the fireworks in the tractor supply parking lot.
Sorry guys. If it rains next time, I will start hiring out my services as a rain maker.
