Big Bend - October 2012

Several members have expressed an interest in another Big Bend trip. October has tentatively been selected as the best weather month. Open for suggestions as to the exact date(s).

Everyone has indicated a desire to run River Road from the Rio Grande campground to Santa Elena canyon (approximately 60 miles), with side excursions thru Black Gap and the Mariscal Mine. This will require one full day.

Other trails will be run after River Road including the Tinaja Trail and Terlingua Ghostown.

Keep in mind that Big Bend is the desert and hydration is essential. Shiner Bock and water are necessary. Weapons are not necessary but will be present in the event of coyotes.

Everyone says they always wanted to visit Big Bend, but have never made the trip. Now is the time to join us. You have six months to schedule and plan for the trip. Stock jeeps are more than adequate for Big Bend.

May be interested in this trip. Need to know exact dates. Have never been to Big Bend.

We are in. My first bid for a date is the 22 - 26. But quite honestly it really doesn't matter. River road is a definite this time. gotta do old ore road again Ray.

I would like to go but, it would have to be 1st week of Oct. That's when the kids are off on vaction.

I'm cool with that. 1st - 5th.

Eric & Lanny, are you in this year?

I really enjoyed getting to experience Big Bend with the guys last November. I can't make it this year - I don't know about Deacon (Eric).

When I do make it back out there, I want to try the State Park trails, as I have heard they are little more challenging. Have any of tried the state park before?

Hope to finalize exact dates next week.

Finally have dates for Big Bend. Polled five members and got five different dates. General consensus was the week of 10/8 with emphasis on weekend 10/12, 10/13, & 10/14.

Some will be camping - Rio Grande Village is a great campground. Some will be moteling it.

Plan accordingly. Hope to see everyone there.

Oh well that leaves us out. The kids will be back in school by then.

I'm not adverse to the first week in October if you are for sure going. What does everyone think?

Ray, the first week in October works for me, if it allows others to join up.

Just let me know what days to put in for. however I don't believe the difference between the first or second week in October will help with school aged children.

My vote is for sometime on the week of the 10/8 for the weekend of 10/12. This way Michelle will be able to make it.

Change of dates to permit others to join.

Time frame is now week of October 1st with emphasis on the weekend of 10/5, 10/6 & 10/7.

Plan accordingly.

We're out, SEMA bound.

I put in for my vacation. will be arriving sometime on the first and leaving sometime on the 9th.

Vacation has been approved. We will be spending Sarah's birthday in port Aransas September 23 - 30. Leaving port aransas early on the 30th enroute to big bend arriving there sometime on the 1st of October.

What's everyone else's plans?
