Big Bend - October 2012

River Road, Black Gap & the mine should be run on Saturday. Those who arrive on Friday may not arrive in time to do this.

I would like to run the Tinaja Trail again. Very serious scenic overlook. Also want to leave a .45 on the headstone.

I may or may not pull my trailer. If I do, I'm pulling it over the trails including Black Gap - just for the novelty of it.

I'm an iffy now, I have a team in Hounduras, that will be coming out sometime in Oct. I have to be here to debrief.

Monday and Tuesday: I will explore areas I have not been.
Wednesday: Ray arrive in afternoon do Hotspings and Boquillas
Thursday: Explore the Southwest corner am, Meet up with Robert pm, Little wheeling somewhere, get his camp up.
Friday: Old Ore Road am, Meet up with Ken, Glenn Springs Road and Black Gap pm
Saturday: River Road, Mariscal Mine, Santa Elena Canyon
Sunday: Paint Gap and West Side Improved Roads.

What happened to D.J. & Kassi? Are they coming? We can survive if they don't come, but it would be better with them.

Don't know if the Lone Star Brewery will survive without D.J.'s beer intake.

Talked to him bout it. he has an engagement to take care of first part of the week. trying to convince him to come after.

Little bump here. Less than a month away, any new interest? Its gonna be a blast. Hey Robert did you research and finalize your camping plans?

I dont think so. Thats why i suggested you camp near us. We wont be camping but we will be near to hang out at your camp.

Well boys and girls, because of my new job with the city, I will be on probation for 6 months. I asked my supervisor and he HIGHLY recommended not taking ANY time off during my probation period. That is one they LOOK at.



So we will not be going!!!

Two more weeks for me. looks like we are gonna skip the beach run and head out to Big Bend a few days early, probably Friday sometime. Can't wait, hope some more folks join us but if not, it'll be Ray Ken and I again tearing it up. Ray and I have also decided to spend a day at the State Park as well.

For those who haven't seen it on other clubs, I fought a diamond back rattlesnake last night and he won. I've been in ICU since and probably will be until the morning. I should be changed to a regular room tomorrow for a few days to finish recovery. I should fine when its all over. I don't know how this will affect my ability to go to Big Bend not only physically but financially. I will make every attempt to go but I want to make it known there is a chance I may be unable to go. Thanks to all my 3rd coast jeepers friends for their support and well wishes.

Damn, Shane. Sorry to hear of your misfortune. I'm hoping for the best. If there is anything I can do for you or your family, just let me know.

Damn Boy, that sucks. Did you at least kill the sucker? If so, then technically you still won.

I'm happy to report that Beached Bum is still with us and going back to work tomorrow.

Maybe our friend Shane should now be called Snake.

It's like on the movie Expendables II. They tell Chuck Norris, "I heard you were dead!", "I heard you got bit by a cobra!". Chuck Norris says," Yea, after 3 days of agonizing pain...the cobra finally died."

Big Bend is just around the corner. Beached Bum is already there making plans. I will be leaving early Wednesday and Kenslade will be there Friday.

Most of the wheeling will be Friday, Saturday (River Road) and early Sunday. It's not to late to join in the activities.

Regardless of the number at Big Bend, one thing is certain. We will have a good time.

Another Big Bend trip has come and gone. The desert was especially green this time due to the recent rainfall. Shane, Sheridan, Sarah, Ken, Greg, Rob, Kenneth & I all had a good time.

We saw a large coyote, that was as large as a German shepherd, two burros, a couple of snakes, and a herd of horses (six to eight). In the state park we also came across a couple of dead horses.

On Thursday, Shane & I visited Big Bend Ranch State Park. One word can be used to describe the state park - A W E S O M E. It is much more primative than the national park and the trails are great. The only problem, you have to drive 27 miles down a rough, rocky road to get to the entrance station. You must carry fuel into the park. Once there, you can camp, stay in a bunkhouse or rent a house.

After visiting the state park, the national park no longer holds an interest for me.

It was alot of fun. We have discussed a trip to the State Park, However like Ray said, it is honestly 27 miles of off roading just to get to the park headquarters. There are alot of trails out there, majority of them unmaintained. Honestly even most of the maintained ones put Hidden Falls to shame.

As I said, we discussed putting together a trip there. However it is literally many miles from nowhere. Once you are there, you are there. We were suprised to see once we got to the headquarters, a fully functional visitors center. I have not looked hard into it however my son observed a sign about renting a cabin of some sort. We discussed getting several folks together, however many the cabin would accomidate, who would be willing to go in even on a cabin for three or so days (one day to travel, three days to wheel, and one day travel back). you would have to haul in your own gas for the three or so days, probably 40 - 50 gallons or so a Vehicle, however the wheeling is absolutly awesome.

Once we actually got there, we only had time to do one trail but it was worth the whole trip. Just an example, we left shortly before 9am from Terlingua, drove all the way there, did one trail and returned to Terlingua after dark. Its out there.
