| you knoe I go to Corpus every 3 weeks its my sales territory and last week around the corner from the best western we are staying at their are some flats you can wade about 100 yards until you get to some deeper water. I caught a few small trout and sunfish but nothing to put in the pan. I was using live shrimp and popping cork but off in the near distance 2 guys were catching bigger fish on lures. Also walking distance from the same hotel to the intercoastal bridge was pretty good , mostly fishing bottom but a popular spot, maybe friday evening when we get in we can go hit it. Bobby | |

Not a big fan of trying to keep bait alive out on the beach. Just need to get my reels re-spooled between now and then, my surf rod especially is in poor shape - having lost about a 100 yards of line thus far =)
I'll be camping also. I just can't fathom paying for a room when there's a perfectly good beach
!c Oh yeah...we call stingray "shark candy".....almost all of the trout and reds I've caught on PINS has been on gold or silver spoons or touts (shrimp tails) and mirrolures. For bait for the big rods or croaker or pompano, I use these and they work great. I just put them on a little bitty circle or flounder hook and instant cut bait for the big rods. http://www.fishbites.com/I don't know if they have them at Academy, but I have found them at Cut Rate.

I have even better idea....I am taking two of my big surf rods for sharks, jacks & stuff. I put those out while I am wading for specks......I love to catch the big stuff but its so much better when somebody else gets their butts whipped.. ...my back starts to hurt after 30 minutes....and Claudina only lasts about 15 minutes in her chair, ......so I would be more than happy to let your kids fight a big shark or whatever takes the bait....and the way I have my rigs set up with large circle hooks...all they have to do is pick up the rod and start reeling....hook sets itself.....and the fight is ON....LOLOLOL.... You may lose your rod if my kids are holding on to it, seeing how they have no idea what sort of strength will be needed to hold on to it.

Oh yeah, lots of 'Poons down on PINS. It might be a little early for them now, I haven't seen any reports, but you can catch them on PINS. The last one I saw caught was several years ago, buddy of mine caught one on a fly rod....It was only around 30 pounds, but it was a Tarpon and bigger ones are caught....

| Tarpon? I would love to hook a Tarpon! Even a small Tarpon would be great just for the fight. I am hoping for Red's, specks' even flounder would be cool. | |

| Finally, after 2 months of howling wind, woke up this morning to a North breeze and green water. Hit the surf at 6:15am and walked out at 8:15 with 10 nice specks. My biggest was 25" and nice and fat, like me.... We even had some working bird action that we got into. It was a trout on every cast...LOL. Not all were keepers, but it was non-stop action for about 30 minutes. Anyway, we didnt use shrimp or croakers. I haven't fished with bait in over 20 years. Nothing against people who use bait, but its not for me. All our trout were caught on gold spoons and MirrorLures in Texas chicken color. Should be even better down on PINS, if the wind will lay down. On PINS you never know what you'll catch, Tarpon, Snook, Specks Reds....its all good..... | |
